Property Tax Frequently Asked Questions
💰 How are my property taxes calculated?
Property taxes are calculated using your property’s assessed value and the tax rates set by Council.
The general formula is:
Assessment × Percentage of Value × Mill Rate × Mill Rate Factor
Additional factors such as minimum tax or base tax may also apply.
🏡 Why did my taxes increase?
Your taxes may increase due to:

an increase in your property assessment

changes to the municipal budget

changes to mill rates or tax policies

changes to provincial education tax rates

👉 A higher assessment does not always mean your taxes will increase by the same percentage.
